8/25/2023 0 Comments Medium flat rate boxI feel like this is going to be confusing to some people because they will assume that because we can use flat rate packaging now, that means we can ship any weight - but that is false. My mail carrier said I could get away with it was because the label value itself exceeded the actual cost of a padded flat rate envelope label - they have always been Priority 5 lb labels and I don’t think you could ship 5 lbs ANYWHERE for less than $10.Īnother note to add (which is extra confusing for users) is that although we can now use flat rate packaging, we STILL have to pay extra if the package is over 5 lbs, per the current system. In my early days of Poshmark, I would foolishly try to skate by with the padded flat rate envelopes - and it worked pretty much all the time. As an experiment, I quoted how much an actual priority mail label for 5 pounds (purchased thru ) would cost to ship across the country and it was about $25. Their labels are priority mail and up to 5 lbs. It was a pretty big announcement.Īlso, it should technically be noted that although the shipping cost through Poshmark is $6.49, it’s not just a $6.49 valued label in terms of the actual mail system. I’m not willing to risk it with the problems people have clearly been having with this rollout, but that’s what Poshmark has stated is now acceptable. They expanded it to include all of it, so theoretically speaking, you could ship in a small flat rate box with no extra cost. Poshmark recently made a change and said that you can now use ANY priority mail packaging (including flat and regional rate) with their prepaid labels. USPS needs to start offering non-flat rate Priority Mail boxes again like they used to. At that point I'd recommend either taking it to another post office (if you live in an area large enough to have more than one) or send it through mail at work or school (where stuff is just picked up in bulk and they pay a bit less attention to specifics like this). But if they decide they're feeling finnicky that day, they could bump it back to you. I think once it's scanned in, it's in their system and they'll just let it flow through. For the most part I think it just has to do with whichever USPS employee picks up your box at the time. I've only ever had a package returned once for being in the "wrong" box. Flat Rate has free boxes you can pick up, "regular" Priority Mail will use any box you want, but you have to purchase a box at the Post Office if you don't have one. It's ridiculously confusing to have Priority Mail and Priority Mail Flat Rate when the iconography is the same.
